News – Car Jacking – 9/6/23

600 Block N. Carrollton Avenue

Last night (9/6/23) a car-jacking occurred in the 600 Block of N. Carrollton Avenue at 7:45 pm.  The victim was specifically parked in front of 631 N. Carrollton Avenuesitting in his vehicle (2018 Nissan Rogue), on the phone and eating.  As stated at approximately 7:45 pm a B/M subject knocked on the victim’s driver side window and when the victim looked up he observed a gun pointed at him stating “get out the fucking car, I’m not kidding.”  The victim exited and notified the perpetrator the keys were inside the vehicle and the car was push to start.  The perpetrator then fled in the vehicle south on N. Carrollton Avenue, Mid-City Unit 379 (Officer K. Marshall) was the first unit on scene.  The victim was not injured, but obviously emotionally rattled by the crime.

The perpetrator (Dewitt Madison 2/21/83) was arrested today at 2:45 am on Paris Avenue, he is not a juvenile and the motive is unknown.  At this time I don’t have the details of the arrest, however a warrant was signed before his arrest so he was evidently identified by 3rd District Detectives/Officers.  This was not a typical time of occurrence for a robbery or attempted robbery, which usually occur between 10:00 pm –  5:00 am.  There was a quick response and although this occurred, it was closed quickly with an arrest.  Please continue visibility in those corridors that are target rich and the gas stations.  If there is anything new I will notify you of that information.
