Crime Map – September 24-30, 2023

Item # I-26390-23 (aggravated battery by shooting) 9/28/23 1:34 pm @Ulloa and S. Pierce Streets;  The victim of the shooting was standing on the corner and at some point he and the perpetrator engaged in a brief argument, which ended with the victim slapping the perpetrator in the face.  The perpetrator subsequently went to his residence, retrieved a handgun, relocated to the corner and shot the victim.  The perpetrator then proceeded back to his residence.  During on scene investigation, officers (DIU) continued to work the scene and were able to identify the perpetrator, obtain a warrant and make an arrest in the case.  The arrested subject is identified as Derrick Hines, B/M. The victim is suspected of being engaged in narcotics distribution and did have narcotics on him that was stolen or recovered by another on scene.  The victim was initially assisted by an outside agency LEO who removed the narcotics from the subject while rendering first aid.   I was the first NOPD Officer on scene and by that time the narcotics were gone.  Additionally, the victim was seen retrieving a hidden weapon after he was shot.  The weapon the victim was seen retrieving on video was also not recovered and most likely removed by a friend or associate.

Vehicle burglaries were our most active crime the past week concentrated around the Shamrock.
