Crime Map – August 25-31, 2024

There were no violent or person crimes reported this past week.  However, there was a homicide that occurred in the early-morning hours of Sunday 9/1/24.  That incident will be on the crime map for the upcoming week.  The details from the incident appear to be a fight occurring in the parking lot involving Shamrock patrons.  One group left the parking lot in a vehicle and the other group followed and fired multiple shots at the initial group that left.  The victim’s vehicle crashed as a result of the shooting.  One female was shot in the head.  She later expired at UMC.  This would be the second shooting this year that occurred in that area, and the second homicide that occurred in Mid-City this year (year to date).

When conducting an analysis of where the shootings and homicides have occurred year to date in Mid-City it’s as follows:

The first shooting victim of the year was Mr. Thomas Smith.  He was also the shooting victim listed as the sixth shooting.  Mr. Smith was shot on 1/21/24 (1st time) and again 8/19/24 (2nd time).  Both of Mr. Smith’s shootings occurred in the 4700 Block of Banks Street, at his residence.

The second shooting/ first homicide victim of the year was Mr. Darriel King on 4/7/24, who was working at Wit’s Inn the night he was killed, in the capacity of a security officer.

The third shooting was a targeted shooting at the intersection of Tulane and S. Dupre Street on 4/15/24 of patrons of 2901 Bar and Lounge.  The total victims in that incident were three.

The fourth shooting occurred on 6/29/24 at the intersection of S. Clark and Tulane.  This involved two male subjects: one passing and observing the other, shooting at that individual, and the other subject shooting back once and striking the initial shooter.

The fifth shooting occurred on 7/13/24 in the Shamrock parking lot between two male subjects, with one of the shooters striking two female bystanders.

The sixth shooting occurred on 8/19/24.  It is also listed under the first shooting, due to the fact that the same person — Mr. Thomas Smith — was shot, in the same location as the first shooting.

This seventh/second homicide occurred 9/1/24 had a total of five victims, with one deceased.  This incident originated at the Shamrock.

There were two homicides in Mid-City this year.  One homicide was that of Mr. Darriel King, which occurred on 4/7/24.  The other homicide was that of Raven Francis, which occurred on 9/1/24.  Both are unfortunate and condolences to their family and loved ones.

In total, there have been seven shooting incidents; however eleven people were shot and two killed.

I feed some cats on my porch sometime between 9:30 & 10:30 an I very much appreciate that if the officer passes when I am there, he lets me know it is him, by flicking a light on and off.
