Persons Crimes

When you look at the map one phrase comes to mind and that’s “schools out!”  We (Mid-City) was slammed on both sides of the district with vehicle burglaries, which have been inching up to early 2022 numbers.  Vehicle burglaries are closing in on the auto thefts, and I suspect the security system repairs to the Kia’s and Hyundai’s, along with owners using steering wheel clubs may be playing a part in the auto thefts dropping.  Late night Tuesday and early morning Wednesday was the busiest night for our crimes, the times are generally the 11:00 pm-3:00 am hours.  Sunday night was our second busiest night for property crimes, centered around Blue Diamond, Shamrock and Vandal.

Club Pressure did have security that would patrol around the area during their times of operation, I’m not sure Blue Diamond is doing the same.  The problem with the rise in vehicle burglaries, particularly at these clubs is firearms being inside.  I have no doubt that’s why that area is becoming a focal point again.  I will attempt to make contact with club management to see if they have exterior patrols currently.  I’m not sure if the clubs were opened last night, because unless we get late reports we only had two crimes reported in Mid-City last night and they are listed above.

There were no persons crimes last week, but we did have a car-jacking last night in the 4200 Block of Tulane Avenue and armed robbery in the 3200 Block of Conti Street.

E-14589-23 5/14/23 11:42 pm car-jacking@4200 Block Tulane;  The victim was going to the Shamrock, the parking lot was full so he parked in the 4200 Block of Tulane.  The victim as sitting in the car for a brief time with his door open, when two B/M’s approached with firearms and took his vehicle.

E-14512-23 5/14/23 9:50 pm armed robbery @3200 Block Conti;  The victim was a friend of the vehicle owner, the victim walked to the vehicle to retrieve an item from it when two B/M’s approached on foot, armed and took the vehicle keys.  Both perpetrators then fled in the vehicle.
