Item # K -26049-22 shooting 600 Block of S. Norman Francis 11/27/22 10:30 pm; Department was notified of a shooting victim at UMC, upon arrival the driver of the vehicle reported the incident happened on S. Norman Francis likely in the 600 Block. The victim was a passenger in a 2022 Chevy Corvette, the driver stated he heard multiple shots from an unknown vehicle. The victims were traveling toward uptown on Norman Francis in the left land and the perpetrating vehicle was in the right lane. The perpetrating vehicle fled, the passenger was shot in his right side and hip area. The vehicle only suffered damage on the passenger side. The driver immediately took his passenger to the hospital. The driver reported he left a bar in the area almost immediately prior to the shooting. It’s suspected by detectives, based upon his vehicle, clothing and likely being perceived as cocky, the driver caught the attention of someone who was jealous and went to the extreme of committing this violent act. Nothing at this point shows this to be an attempted robbery. The driver plays pro-basketball in Europe and originally went to high school in New Orleans and frequents his home town. The shots were tight on the vehicle and the shooter likely had some experience firing a weapon based upon that.
